The ReadUp Club is a community that organizes events for book lovers in cities across Germany and Austria. The core idea is “Silent Reading” in cafés, where each participant reads their own book, surrounded by others who share the same interest.
I had the pleasure of participating in their event in Bielefeld, and let me tell you: it was amazing!
We had the most wonderful time reading our books, socializing with people like us, and playing games.
As the organizers emphasize, their goal is to turn reading from a solitary activity into an opportunity for social interaction in a relaxed atmosphere. In other words, it’s the perfect excuse to leave the house and enjoy reading in a cozy setting together with other book enthusiasts. Not everyone reads the same book; everyone brings their own.
Although the reading itself takes place in silence, the events offer time for conversation and getting to know one another, often accompanied by literary games. It’s a wonderful experience to spend time in a place with people who share the same passion for books.
