Without a doubt, The Serpent and the Wings of Night is one of the best books I read this year.
From the very first pages, the story managed to keep me fully engaged without ever feeling tiring or slow — something that isn’t always easy to achieve, especially in fantasy.
Even when I could predict certain plot developments, it didn’t bother me at all when they actually happened. On the contrary, it felt satisfying. The book doesn’t rely solely on shocking twists to be compelling; instead, it draws you in through its atmosphere, characters, and the way the story unfolds. And that, for me, is a huge strength.
One of the things I appreciated most was how information and world-building were presented. Details are revealed gradually and naturally, without interrupting the flow of the story or slowing down its progression. Nothing feels forced or overwhelming, and yet the world feels rich and complete. The pacing remains steady throughout, allowing the story to breathe while still moving forward.
I also want to highlight the excellent translation. An incredible job has been done, making the reading experience smooth and immersive.
The second book as well as the novella that followed this book have also been on the top books of the year and they have also been translated perfectly.
