Most of us are already familiar with Holly Jackson’s style—her talent for weaving mysteries that pull you in from the very first page and keep you hooked until the very last. I didn’t need much convincing to pick this one up, but I have to say, it managed to surprise me all the same.

It’s such a clever idea, and Jackson executes it brilliantly. The pacing is spot on, with enough twists and turns to keep you guessing the whole way through. At the same time, Jet’s body is shutting down—slowly, painfully, and inevitably. Reading her gradual decline, as she loses one ability after another, isn’t easy. You feel the countdown on every page, and the emotional weight adds a depth you don’t always find in thrillers.
And yet, despite knowing how it must end, you can’t help but hold on to hope. That’s the brilliance of this book—it balances suspense and heartbreak so well that you’re left torn between wanting answers and wishing you could stop time.
