The second year at Basgiath War College is usually more relaxed for all riders. Not so for Violet. The growing distance between her and Xaden does little to ease her burden, and the brutal, relentless training imposed by the college only adds to her challenges. Every day is a test of strength, courage, and resilience, and Violet must navigate it all while keeping her deepest secrets hidden.
What happens when long-held secrets are finally revealed? When the fronts of a war expand, leaving no corner safe? The second half of the book is particularly gripping, with tension mounting at every turn. The pivotal battle near the end, combined with the major twist that closes the story, left me utterly stunned. It is a masterful mix of suspense, strategy, and emotional stakes that keeps you on edge until the very last page.
As in the first book, my favorite moments are those featuring dragons and griffins, as well as venin and wyverns. These magical creatures bring the fantasy world vividly to life, adding depth, wonder, and excitement to the story. The magic feels real, dangerous, and awe-inspiring all at once. What did try my patience, however, was Violet and Xaden’s relationship. If you want him that badly, stop making excuses. And you, dark and brooding hero—if you are literally willing to die for her, show a bit more honesty and vulnerability.
Ultimately, this is a book filled with tension, magic, and unforgettable characters. Every battle, every secret, and every connection leaves its mark. Each flame burns in memory long after the pages are closed, making it a story that lingers, thrills, and enchants the reader from beginning to end.
